Review of Kirk Cameron’s Monumental

In Search of America’s National Treasure

Produced by Kirk Cameron

A movement of the Spirit has begun in America. While many of us have felt a sense of uneasiness and uncertainty about the future, the Holy Spirit has been stirring in the hearts of Christians across the globe, to pray for repentance and revival, knowing the only hope we have as a nation is to turn our hearts back toward God.

Kirk Cameron, along with his wife, Chelsea and their six children, are one such family who have received a call from the Lord not to settle with the current state of our nation, but to inspire others to seek reformation and hope through learning from our nation’s history and opening up the Word of God. Many of us glean the Bible for stories of encouragement in times of hopelessness, and we see countless examples of God restoring relationship with His people when they humble themselves and seek to walk in His Truth (see 2 Chronicles 7:14).

As David writes: “We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, the deeds You did in their days, in days of old: You drove out the nations with Your hand, but them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, nor did their own arm save them; but it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, because You favored them.” Psalm 44:1-3

As Kirk explains through this insightful documentary, the rode of the pilgrims was anything but straight and smooth, but rather rocky and uncertain. They truly offered themselves as living sacrifices to their Maker as well as for the benefit of future generations.

While Kirk retraced the steps of the pilgrims, he discovered how America was the most prosperous and free country ever to be established, and the foundation of it all wasn’t due to great wealth- the pilgrims had nothing. It wasn’t power- the pilgrims were considered “separatists” and rejected by the church of England for not living in subjection to the King. But rather, it was due to their unswerving faith and God’s constant provision that they even made the trip on the Mayflower and survived the first winter in the new world.

Perhaps, just as in battle God fought for Gideon and His people, sizing down his army from 32, 000 to 300 to prove His Hand in the battle, God allowed the Pilgrims a challenging journey to strengthen their faith and to provide them as well as generations to follow, a testimony of His Love, Care and Provision for those in Christ who earnestly seek Him. It was the Lord Who led them and established government in America and by His Law made America free and prosperous.

In an effort to preserve the significant details of the movie, (you must demand the movie in your area by going to, I will conclude this article with this: There is a monument that overlooks Plymouth Harbor, which the Pilgrims left as a remembrance of their past and guide for our future. The granite structure, now 130 years old, overlooks Plymouth Harbor. At the pinnacle of this structure stands Faith. There is no solution that man can give to our current moral, economic or political crisis. The message may be simple, Faith, but in receiving His Word and allowing its’ life-giving properties (The Holy Spirit) to change and mold and move us, we are opening up the floodgates for the Spirit of God to move and have His way once again in our nation. It is only by God’s Grace and the proclamation and reception of His Gospel that America’s ship can be righted once again.

Kirk’s final message is this: “The Land of the Free Begins in the Homes of the Brave.” Change in our nation first begins with us, and then in our homes. O Lord, humble our hearts in repentance and guide us in your Word, that we may share the Hope of Your Gospel and Your Love, not just in words, but in deed and in Your Truth. (Adapted from 1 John 3:18)
